The Costa del Sol

Costa del Sol is a region in the south of Spain, it is made up of coastal towns and communities along the Mediterranean coastline. Tourism has changed the face of the Costa del Sol, some popular holiday destinations are: Torremolinos, Benalm?ídena, Fuengirola, Mijas, Marbella, San Pedro de Alc?íntara, Estepona, Manilva, Casares, Rincon de la Victoria, V??lez-M?ílaga, Nerja, Frigiliana and Torrox. The city of M?ílaga is a centre of culture, with the fantastic Picasso museum being a must see attraction, it also boasts magnificent architecture.

Golf on the Costa del Sol

Golf is ever popular on the Costa del Sol with over 45 courses along the coast, there are courses to suit any budget and ability. Valderama may be the most well know course having hosted the Ryder cup in 1997. You are nearly always guaranteed an outstanding view of either mountains of sea whilst playing golf, and the fantastic climate on the Costa del Sol makes it perfect for golf.

Destination Highlights

Holiday makers can enjoy the miles of sun drenched coasts, Marbella is a particular highlight, you can enjoy Tapas all along the promenade ?Ç¥Paseo Maritimo?Ç¥. The promenade stretches to Peurto Banus, which is lively centre of high end shops, restaurant and night clubs; it is the playground for the super rich and well worth a visit to see the luxury yachts and cars. Don't forget a visit to Marbella "Old Town" to get away from it all, rustic squares shaded with trees, the perfect place to relax and sample local delicacies. 

Another must see on your visit to the Malaga province is Ronda, a village on a cliff at over 740 meters about sea level. There is simply no place that can compare to Ronda, with breathtaking views down from the cliff to working farms below. Ronda is a divided in two by a gorge that at 100 metres deep, that makes it dizzying to gaze down to the river River Guadalev?¡n below.

Estepona is a hub for true beach lovers with over 21 km of coastline. Lively "chiringuitos" beach bars are a good place to relax and have drinks or tapas, after soaking up the sun. There are a number of old squares to sample traditional Spanish cuisine.

Fuengirola offers all the facilities for the great Spain getaway holiday: hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs, discoth?¿ques, sports clubs, a yacht harbour, and broad beaches along a promenade extending east and west from the town. Average temperatures in Fuengirola are 18??C reaching an average of 30??C in summer making it a year round destination. There is a large European ex-pat community making the sunny resort a home away from home.

Benalm?ídena is situated about 12 km to the west of the of M?ílaga. The town is also home to Benalm?ídena Stupa, a large stupa (a structure important in Buddhism) it is a must see and is free to visit and has many souvenirs in a small gift shop. There is an excellent promenade running along the coastline. A must do activity is a trip on the cable car to the top of the mountain overlooking Benalm?ídena, The Birds of Prey exhibition on the mountain is inclusive with the cable car price (13 euro) and is a fascinating show with eagles, vultures and owls showing off their skills.

Nerja has over 16km of beaches with soft sand and clear water. Most major water sports are available: including water skiing, scuba diving and sailing. The mountain range, Sierra Almijara, overlooks the town which has a old fashioned non-built up feel that is refreshing. The old quarter of the town is still virtually unchanged with narrow, winding streets, whitewashed houses with wrought iron balconies overflowing with flowers. A must see attraction are the nearby caves which are rich in archaeological history
